About Kiwi Breaks

Hi, my name is Michael Merrylees, owner of Kiwi Breaks Ltd. Born in Auckland New Zealand I grew up in and around Christchurch. A passion for travel was instilled by my parents at a very early age (I took my first flight at just 3 months of age) and by the time I moved out from my parent’s home I had toured New Zealand extensively as well as having taken regular overseas family vacations visiting Melbourne, Sydney, Singapore, Fiji, Los Angeles and

Honolulu. An 8 year stint living in the United Kingdom saw me undertake extensive travel throughout Europe and North America. It was while in London that I first started selling New Zealand as a holiday destination, spending 4 years working for a New Zealand Tour company, training travel agents, fielding client enquiries and booking a wide range of New Zealand travel products.

Returning to New Zealand in 2001 I started working for a long standing Destination Management Company and have since then had the very real pleasure of selling my country to countless numbers of overseas visitors.

Today

Each year I spend several weeks out visiting various parts of New Zealand to ensure my knowledge is as up to date as possible. In 2008 those travels saw me spend time in Auckland, the Bay of Islands, Rotorua, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, Te Anau, Doubtful Sound and Dunedin. In 2009 I visited Queenstown, Milford Sound, Wanaka, Fox Glacier, Franz Josef, Punakaiki, Nelson, Arthur’s Pass, Kaikoura and Wellington.

So far 2010 has been a little quieter but in the next few months I will be visiting Southland, Stewart Island, Wellington, Naper & Auckland.

Apart from selling New Zealand I also enjoy experiencing New Zealand in particular hiking on the thousands of great trails we have up and down the country and Mountain Biking, a passion that I share with other members of my family. I am a regular on the excellent single track trails to be found around Christchurch and will this year ride the famous Otago Central Rail Trail.

June 2011 update. Thank to all the kind words and messages of support for those of us living in the city of Christchurch. The past 9 months have certainly being challenging butt like many we are back up and running and getting on with our lives. Things are certainly different now and will remain so for several years however life goes on and I'll begin updating this website and blogs in due course.
